Lewis Hamilton and George Russell both finished outside of the fastest 10 drivers during practice on Friday at the F1 British Grand Prix.

Hamilton suggested that part of their recovery, ahead of qualifying on Saturday, would involve Schumacher’s sim work.

Their third driver was hard at work until the early hours, battling through the balance issues that Hamilton felt.

“It’s a tough car to drive,” Hamilton said about the W14.

“No matter what we do to set-up, it continues to be a tough car to drive. On a single lap I didn’t feel any improvement between tyres, which shows that something is wrong. We’re missing something.”

Russell added: “Not a lot to take away from the upgrades as such but come qualifying I'm sure we'll know where we stand.”

Mercedes’ performance on Saturday at Silverstone will have Schumacher’s overnight stint to thank.
