Doohan fastest for Van Amersfoort on opening day of F3 test in Valencia
2021 Formula 3 runner-up Jack Doohan set the pace on the opening day of testing for Van Amersfoort Racing in Valencia.
Doohan finished the season as vice-champion to Prema’s Dennis Hauger, who wasn’t present at the test.
He set the pace in both the morning and afternoon sessions, driving for Dutch outfit Van Amersfoort.
Van Amersfoort has replaced HWA for the next three seasons having regularly competed in junior categories such as the now-defunct European F3 championship.
Doohan was the fastest in both sessions ahead of Victor Martins, who was in action for ART Grand Prix.
Morning
Wet conditions meant it was a slow start to the day at the Ricardo Tormo Circuit.
Caio Collet set the early pace before Doohan took to the top again ahead of Martins.
Kaylen Frederick was in action for Hitech Grand Prix and he moved up to an impressive third at the close of the morning session.
The top 10 in the morning was: Doohan, Martins, Frederick, Stanek, Crawford, Rasmussen, Leclerc, Collet, Colapinto and Maloney.
Afternoon
Doohan took to the top with a 1m22.402s, getting ahead of Martins who had led much of the afternoon session.
Rookies Grégoire Saucy and Zane Maloney impressed with third and fourth at the end of the day, while Roman Stanek classified fifth for Trident.
The top 10 in the afternoon was: Doohan, Martins, Saucy, Maloney, Stanek, Colombo, Leclerc, Crawford, Rasmussen and Colapinto.
The action continues in Valencia tomorrow with day two of the test.
The most notable changes include Mercedes junior driver Paul Aron replacing Arthur Leclerc at Prema, while Enzo Trulli - the son of 2004 Monaco GP winner Jarno - will be driving for Jenzer.
