McLaren's Lando Norris started in P2 but sensationally overtook pole-sitter Max Verstappen on the opening lap.
The Silverstone crowd roared to see the Brit lead on home turf!
But Verstappen regained the lead and rain is coming...
Verstappen, Norris, Hamilton, Alonso, Piastri, Albon, Russell, Leclerc, Sainz and Perez.
The hard tyre doesn't look to be the one today. Russell gets past him with ease.
He sets the fastest lap as he closes up to Leclerc.
Piastri comes out in sixth on the hards.
Rsussell rejoins in ninth behind Leclerc; Perez is 13th on a new set of the softs.
Piastri is the next driver to pit.
Russell pits from fourth and opts for the mediums as expected.
Perez also comes in.
Waiting for the top three to stop soon.
Hards for Sainz as well - not sure why, they don't look like a good tyre.
Russell has done 26 laps on the softs now. Surely everyone will be looking to do a medium to soft strategy or soft to medium in the case of the Mercedes.
Verstappen has now increased his gap over Norris to 6.3s.
He's now just 1.1s behind Sainz in the battle for fifth.
Not sure it's going to work out. He doesn't look that quick on the hards.
Verstappen, Norris, Piastri, Russell, Sainz, Hamilton, Alonso, Gasly, Perez, Albon, Stroll, Leclerc, Sargeant, de Vries, Zhou, Bottas, Magnussen, Tsunoda and Hulkenberg.
It's Lap 19 and Leclerc is the first of the front runners to pit - it's the hard tyre for Ferrari.
Verstappen continues to control the race from the front - 3.7s between him and Norris.
Piastri is enjoying a strong outing - 1.7s behind Verstappen.
Russell is closing behind Leclerc for third. Just 0.5s between those two.
It's almost time for pit stops... but will the weather come into play? #BritishGP #F1 pic.twitter.com/6N8KmvwOAI— Formula 1 (@F1) July 9, 2023

An easy move into Stowe for Perez on Stroll.
Verstappen, Norris, Piastri, Leclerc, Russell, Sainz, Hamilton, Alonso, Gasly, Albon, Stroll, Perez, Tsunoda, Sargeant, de Vries, Zhou, Bottas, Magnussen and Hulkenberg.
Light rain in "two or three minutes", Verstappen is told.
Some sort of mechanical issue for Ocon - he's out of the race.
Verstappen is just over 1.0s clear of Norris - crucially this means McLaren will no longer have DRS.
Still, McLaren's pace is very impressive.
The recovering Red Bull is now up to 13th after Hulkenberg made a mistake in the opening part of the lap.
Seems Hulkenberg has a bit of front wing damage now.
Hamilton is attacking Alonso for seventh but he can't get through yet.
