MotoGP Gossip: Crutchlow to replace Vinales at Silverstone
In this week’s MotoGP Gossip column, Cal Crutchlow is set to replace Maverick Vinales for the British Grand Prix, Thomas Luthi confirms he will retire at the end of 2021 and how rookie sensation Jorge Martin came close to quitting the sport.
Yamaha’s decision to suspend Maverick Vinales for the Austrian MotoGP looks set to carry over into Silverstone with Cal Crutchlow replacing the Spaniard.
Vinales was suspended for last weekend’s round ten after deliberately attempting to damage his bike’s engine during the StyrianGP 11 days ago.
The Spaniard later apologised for his actions, however, it wasn’t enough for the team to put him back on the bike for the British Grand Prix according to Autosport.
With Crutchlow moving into the factory team, SRT Moto2 rider Jake Dixon is set to get a MotoGP debut alongside Valentino Rossi at Petronas. [Autosport.com].
Two-time Moto2 runner-up Thomas Luthi has confirmed his intention to retire from active racing at the end of this season.
Following a good 2019 season in which he finished third, Luthi has endured a tough last two seasons aboard Kalex machinery.
Speaking about his decision to retire, Luthi added: "Of course, the decision was not an easy one for me. The motorcycle world championship was my second home and most of my life for almost 20 years.
"I was able to experience great teamwork, celebrate great successes and, in sometimes difficult times, of course, learn an incredible amount about international road racing and its background." [Speedweek.com].
The Swiss rider will remain inside the paddock as Sporting Director of Moto3 team PrustelGP.
