Sergey Sirotkin links up with Audi for Jerez DTM test after F1 exit
Two weeks after losing his Williams Formula 1 race seat for 2019, Sirotkin will get back behind the wheel at Jerez in Audi's 2019 DTM test.
Sergey Sirotkin has linked up with Audi for the post-season DTM test at Jerez this week as he looks to find a racing programme for the 2019 season.
Sirotkin made his Formula 1 debut with Williams earlier this year, but was dropped from its line-up for 2019 after spending one full season with the team.
With no F1 seats remaining for next year, Sirotkin and primary backer, SMP Racing, have been left evaluating alternative racing options, leading to a DTM test with Audi.
Sirotkin linked up with the German manufacturer at Jerez for the test taking place this week from Monday to Wednesday as Audi gave its 2018 Audi RS 5 DTM a final run-out.
Sirotkin was a late addition to Audi’s test line-up, joining three-time 24 Hours of Le Mans winner Benoit Treluyer, WRX racer Andreas Bakkerud and Renault F1 academy member Sacha Fenestraz at the test.
Frédéric Vervisch, Jonathan Aberdein and Mattia Drudi are also set to complete running in the 2018-spec DTM car at Jerez.
Audi is yet to confirm its line-up for DTM in 2019, when it will face fresh competition in the form of Aston Martin, who joins the grid following Mercedes’ exit.
The new DTM season will get underway at Hockenheim on May 4.
